Where Can You Shoot Broadheads? Public Archery Range Rules Compared
Bowhunters need somewhere to check broadhead flight before the season, and many public ranges don't allow it. This is what the operators themselves say, for the ranges in our directory where a rule is published.
| Range | Broadheads | Crossbows | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pennsylvania State Game Lands archery ranges (12 SGL sites) | Only on targets designated for broadhead use | Not stated on the PGC page | PGC archery range regulation #3 |
| August A. Busch Shooting Range, Defiance MO | Broadhead pits on site, plus an elevated shooting tower | Not stated | MDC place page |
| Lake City Shooting Range, Jackson County MO | Field tip, broadhead and crossbow capable | Yes | MDC place page |
| Golden Gate Park Archery Range, San Francisco | Not allowed | Not allowed | SF Rec & Park range rules |
Practical notes
- On MDC areas with a static archery range, MDC states that only archery equipment may be used at the designated range, and that arrows, bolts or darts containing explosive or incendiary material are prohibited (per the Lake City and Parma Woods pages).
- Where a rule isn't published, we list it as unknown. Don't assume broadheads are allowed; ask the operator.
- An elevated tower (Busch in MO; Clybel, McDuffie, Mike Commander, Richmond Hill and Unicoi in Georgia's DNR dataset) is the closest public-range practice to a treestand shot.
